Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah , the Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait Oil Tankers Company, has stated that at the early hours of Sunday corresponding to 15/6/2014 and while the huge oil products tanker “ Al Salmi” , owned by Kuwait Oil Tankers Company and loaded with the Kuwaiti oil, was heading towards Italy for delivering its cargo to KPC’s customers there, the huge tanker has received a distress call from the Italian coast guards asking for help and to head towards rescuing the lives of refugees at sea and to transport them to the safe coasts of Italy.

     

KOTC has immediately contacted Kuwait Petroleum Corporation to notify it with the situation. The management of the company instructed the pilot of “ Al Salmi” tanker to respond to the distress call and to exert all efforts to help in this humanitarian situation in line with the international rules and laws of protecting and rescuing lives at sea and with the International Maritime Law pertaining the same as well.

     

Upon the arrival of “Al Salmi” tanker to the rescue site, it has unloaded its rescue boats and rescued around (225) persons from the rescued ship most of them were women and children where some of them were suffering from critical health conditions; the matter which led to the death of one person due to their long stay at the sea without any sufficient food or water.

     

It is expected that the number of the refugees that the crew of the tanker are trying to recuse will reach (624) refugees. The efforts and the rescue operations conducted by the crew of the tanker “ Al Salmi” are still in progress while the Operations Center of KOTC is in direct contact with the crew of the tanker with the aim of helping and supervising the rescue operation along with monitoring the situation around the clock for facilitating the same. The tanker is currently providing on-board shelter , food , water and the medical treatment for the rescued refugees.

أعلن الشيخ / طلال الخالد الصباح الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة ناقلات النفط الكويتية انه في تمام الساعات الاولي من صباح يوم الاحد الموافق 15/6/2014 واثناء ابحار ناقلة النفط العملاقة (السالمي) والمملوكة لشركة ناقلات النفط الكويتية والمحملة بالنفط الكويتي والمتجهه لتفريغ شحناتها الي زبائن مؤسسة البترول الكويتية في ايطاليا . تم استلام رسالة استغاثه مبعوثه من قبل خفر السواحل الايطالية تطلب فيها المساعدة وبالاتجاه بأقصى سرعة ممكنه وتغيير مسار الناقلة الملاحي لإغاثة وإنقاذ أرواح لاجئين أجانب في عرض البحر ونقلهم الي شواطئ الأمان في ايطاليا .

     

وعلى الفور قامت شركة ناقلات النفط الكويتية بالاتصال بمؤسسة البترول الكويتية لإبلاغهم بالتطورات . حيث أصدرت ادارة الشركة التعليمات الي قبطان الناقلة السالمي بالتوجه للإغاثة وبذل اقصي جهود المساعدة اللازمة لهذا الظرف الانساني ، وتماشياً مع الاعراف والقانونين الدولية لحماية وانقاذ الارواح والتزاماً مع قانون البحار الدولي والمتعلق بعملية انقاذ الارواح البريئة في عرض البحار والمحيطات .

     

وعند وصول الناقلة السالمي الي موقع الانقاذ تم انزال قوارب النجاة وانتشال مايقارب (225) شخصاً من السفينة المغاثه اغلبيتهم من النساء والاطفال بعضهم بحالة صحية حرجه حيث فارق الحياة شخص واحد ونتيجة لمكوثهم لفترة طويلة في عرض البحر بدون طعام وماء كافي . ومن المتوقع ان يصل عدد اللاجئين اللذين يحاول طاقم الناقلة انقاذهم الي مايقارب (624) شخصاً . ولازالت جهود وعمليات الانقاذ مستمرة من قبل الطاقم الملاحي للناقلة السالمي للاجئين ، وان جهاز العمليات التابع لشركة ناقلات النفط الكويتية على اتصال مباشر مع طاقم الناقلة للمساعدة والاشراف على عملية الانقاذ ومراقبة الوضع على مدار 24 ساعة تسهيلاً لهذه المهمة . وتقوم الناقلة حالياً بتوفير المأوي على ظهر الناقلة والطعام والماء والعناية الطبية اللازمة للاجئين الذين تم انتشالهم من عرض البحر .

     

ان عملية انقاذ هذه الارواح البريئة في عرض البحر تعكس ليس فقط مدي التزام شركة ناقلات النفط الكويتية تجاه الاعراف والقانونين الدولية للبحار ، وإنما تعكس مدي التزام دولة الكويت ممثله بجميع اجهزتها ومؤسساتها تجاه العمل الخيري للإنسانية كافة والتي جبلت عليه الكويت حكومةً وشعباً .
